December 2018

December was a very busy & exciting month in the infant room.

Aistear
In Aistear we learned about the nativity story. In small world we created the stable using lego and playdough and in home corner we acted out the story. For the rest of the month we acted out Santa's workshop and the Christmas post office.

Bethlehem
The infants were fantastic singing their song "Somebody just told me" in our amazing performance of Bethlehem. Well done junior & senior infants.

Christmas Party
The infants had a super time at the school Christmas party. We partied in the disco and played in our own room and of course visited Santa. It was so much fun and we were very tired after it.

October November 2018

October & November 2018

We have been very busy in the junior room with lots of exciting learning.

Drumming Workshop
We took part in an amazing drumming workshop which was so much fun. We all had a super time.


Aistear
During October we learned about people who help us. We visited the library in Arklow to learn about librarians and we learned about doctors/nurses.
In November we focused on transport learning about airports, trains, mechanics and bus drivers. We visited the train station in Rathdrum. Aistear is such an important part of learning in our day and the children absolutely love it.







Science Week
We had a super time for Science Week. We took part in school assemblies, poster competition, lego workshop and an engineering workshop. We even built roller coasters.


Breakfast in school
Before the mid term we had our breakfast in school and wore our pyjamas to school. It was so much fun and it was so funny to see the teachers in their PJs too !

Christmas Lights
We took part in colouring competitions in Rathdrum and Arklow for Christmas Lights. It was great fun.

Special Visitor
We had a special visitor who has won Ireland medals for running - Mick Byrne.

September 2018

Welcome Back to Junior & Senior Infants.

We extend a very warm welcome to our new junior infants who have settled in wonderfully to St. Saviour's.

We have had a very busy September with lots of activities as normal.

The junior infants have started jolly phonics so they are busy learning their letters and senior infants have been working very hard on their digraphs.

In addition we have commenced new literacy & numeracy stations which are great fun.

Noelie comes every Monday morning to teach us rugby and on a Thursday morning Catherine has started to teach us GAA.

Lots of us have been taking part in Walk on Wednesday each Wednesday which has been a great start to our day.
In addition lots of us celebrated the Harvest in Church on Sunday followed by our wonderful Vintage Threshing day in Woolmington's Farm.

We are starting Aistear soon which will be lots of fun.

April 2018

Write a Book Winners
The senior infant write a book 1st place went to Will and the Highly Commended was awarded to Lana, Alannah  & Juliet .

Arklow Music Festival
We finally entered the Arklow Music Festival after the competition being cancelled due to the snow. The children did an amazing job of saying our poem - When we Grow Up and we were awarded 1st place and a beautiful trophy. We are so proud!

Fair Day
Sophia C's Mum met us up at the monument that she designed and allowed us to have a photo with her to mark this huge achievement.


Mary Hickey
Mary Hickey visited our school and told us about her "Lap around the Map". The children loved hearing her stories of visiting all coastal parts of Ireland and the RNLI allowed us to try on the life jackets and helmets.




Aistear
This month we traveled around the world visiting UK, France, Australia and America. The children were full of imagination as we climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge, went on a cruise on the Seine River, shouted echoes into the Grand Canyon, waved at Donald Trump, visited Buckingham Palace and viewed London from the London Eye. This was only a short list of the sights we visited and discussed in Aistear.

March 2018

Aistear
We focused on sports all around us this month. We had great fun learning all about rugby in time for Ireland's win in the six nations. All of the children learned to sing Ireland's Call and Amhran na bhFiann. They created their own Ireland jerseys and learned the moves on the rugby pitch. In addition we learned all about the GAA. The children created players with hurls and sliotars from clay and learned the key parts of the game in home corner.



Grandparents Visit
We were delighted to welcome four Grandparents to our classroom. They told us what school was like when they were small and all the things that were different and the same. The children were so excited about the their visit and didn't want them to go!




Seachtain na Gaeilge
We had a wonderful week during Seachtain na Gaeilge. We read stories through Gaeilge, we played biongo, learned how to dance the walls of limerick, had a seo faisin and visited a siopa ispini. On Friday we all dressed in "glas".





Easter Egg Hunt
On the day we finished for our Easter holidays we had great fun creating Easter crafts and taking part in an Easter egg hunt. Happy Easter everyone!

Valentine's Art
We made some lovely Valentine's art & crafts for our families.

Aistear
During February our theme was "All Around Us".
For Music All around us we constructed instruments, learned how to play a piece on the piano and made instruments in small world.
For Geography All Around us we learned about our locality. We walked up to Rathdrum and took photographs of the town. Then in Aistear we made a town in small world, constructed a building in art, in home corner we went outside and conducted a geography audit.
For History all Around us we learned about the past. We looked at some artefacts from long ago and investigated parts of our school which linked to the past. We read the story Sleeping Beauty and learned about change - ie how Sleeping Beauty slept for 100 years and all the things that could change in that time.

January 2018

Happy New Year.

The junior & senior infants are delighted to be back at school for another exciting term.

The junior infants are nearly finished their sounds and will shortly be starting to read which is very exciting.

Aistear 
During January we are learning all about weather. In week 1, we learned about weather and seasons. In week 2, we learned about weather and the different types of clothes we wear in different types of weather. In week 3, we learned about weather and science and in week 4 we learned about weather and forecasting. It has been great fun and we now know lots about weather.
















Write-a-book
The senior infant children finished their write-a-books and submitted them to the Blackrock Education Centre. The theme of our books was "When I grow up".

Viking Visitor
We welcomed a viking visitor to our school. He wore funny clothes and a funny hat. We heard about where he had come from and the kind of life he had. It was very interesting.
